  • 7 Olli ~ Feb 5, 2010 at 2:44 pm

damn, i was already impressed BEFORE i spotted the spartan :O

great logo, can’t imagine how to come up with stuff like that.

    please tell me it’s luck!

  • 8 Leonard ~ Feb 5, 2010 at 4:45 pm

The logo is really nice, but it’s a name put to a logo rather then a logo made to the brief of a company. Google the name and you see tons of pages with the logo on but no actual evidence of a club.

For this reason I think it gets too much credit. It’s a lot easier to come up with a clever logo then put a name to it then to have a name and make a clever logo. Sorry!

    Brilliant!

  • 10 aspiring designer ~ Feb 9, 2010 at 4:57 am

This is really one of the best logos I’ve ever seen. FANTASTIC JOB!

  • 11 Dwyndal ~ Feb 11, 2010 at 6:09 pm

WOW that’s an awesome logo, having worked a lot with spartan schools and golf clubs in the area, this really does fit either part. Nice work!

  • 12 Mike Smith ~ Feb 11, 2010 at 6:17 pm

I dig this logo. I’d love to see it in full color, with maybe a ‘power’ style color scheme for the swing bars, so it looks like they’re powering up.

  • 13 Rose ~ Feb 11, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Amazing logo, I saw the Spartan first, then noticed the golf club, and my jaw dropped when I saw the whole picture. Amazing!

EXCELLENT use of positive and negative space! It’s amazing how you thought a golfer’s body in that position could look like a profile.

    PS:
    Dang it Leonard, you spoiler!

Wow! That is everything a logo should be. Just brilliant!

  • 24 Daniel ~ Mar 6, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I have to agree with Leonard. It’s a wonderful illustration, but it seems like the idea of the arc of a golf swing resembling a helmet of a spartan is what inspired the creation of this logo.

I’m still impressed, but I would be ten times more impressed if this were an actual assignment given to the designer by an actual client.

This is a brilliant example of logo design. Great incorporation of subtle symbols in the logo.

It’s a great design…however, it would have been a lot more impressive had it been for a real client/company.

Great logo, kudos to the designer!

  • 41 chuck miller ~ May 5, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Interesting logo to say the least. Curious to see how the interaction between designer and client went to get this really clean and effective result.

  • 42 Julian ~ May 7, 2010 at 1:31 am

    Leonard,

I was thinking the same thing; either it’s genius or pretty cool… it just depends on which came first, the name or the logo.

If the name came first, this would be great example of logo art… bordering on such greatness, I’d assume that even if the name came first, that it was pure chance that the artist stumbled upon this double image.

  • 43 Jonny ~ May 7, 2010 at 4:23 pm

I keep seeing this and reading the applauds it gets - I seem to be the only one that isn’t licking his lips every time he sees it.

Once you get passed the clever aspect (which itself is very clever and very well executed) the icon is quite non-descriptive, overly complicated and doesn’t really convey anything about aside form a genii swinging a club.

  • 44 Jonny ~ May 7, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Hmm, what happened to my post?

  • 45 Jonny ~ May 7, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I was going to say that if you get past the clever aspect (which is very well though out, and very well executed) I think what’s left is a bit of a mess.

Looks to me like a genii swinging a golf club and I think it’s all a bit to forced to ever be a truly great logo.

But lots of people seem to like it, I keep seeing it everywhere.

  • 55 Scott Duncan ~ Jul 7, 2010 at 8:00 pm

I agree with Leonard. The logo itself is very good, but it would be a whole lot more impressive if it was done for a brief rather than adding a name to an icon
